We know you can’t wait to commemorate National Dog Day this August 26th!
It was fun to cover cats a couple of months ago, but now it’s time to honor man’s best friend. Whether you own a chihuahua or a Tibetan Mastiff, there’s a breed of dog for almost anyone out there (assuming you’re not allergic). Now’s the time to celebrate canines, Tube-Dude style.
What is National Dog Day?
They created National Dog Day back in 2004, but our canine friends have been hanging around us since the ancient Egyptians. Some say that goes back over 10,000 years, but we don’t exactly run around digging up ancient dog fossils to verify these claims.
One of the main purposes behind this commemoration in August is the need for more awareness regarding the number of dogs that are stuck in shelters. Sadly, more than three million dogs enter animal shelters each year. Such a high volume overwhelms the system and leads to over 500,000 euthanized dogs each year.
It’s a shame because they make great pets, including the ones that are harder to domesticate. If, however, you’d like to find one of the most obedient dogs, check out this top 10 list, showcasing the easiest ones to train:
- Border Collies
- German Shepherds
- Golden Retrievers
- Labrador Retrievers
- Vizslas
- English Springer Spaniels
- Poodles
- Keeshonds
- Havaneses
- Manchester Terriers
Yes, even the little “ankle biter” types are some of the most obedient. A Havanese is pretty low maintenance, gets along great with small children, and is easier to train than other small breeds.
English Springer Spaniels have tons of energy, love to please their owners, and maintain an ever-friendly demeanor toward others. For a legitimately tough and loyal dog, you can hardly do better than a German Shepherd. They’re also the largest dog on the list, capable of reaching about 100 pounds.
