February is National Arts month, which is another exciting topic for Tube Dude, who dedicates much of his time to assembling hand-crafted metal art. We hope you would also take some time to revisit or continue an artistic hobby sometime this month. If you’re short on ideas, then you can also join us for the Gigantic Nautical Flea Market at the end of February.
What is National Arts Month?
This is a fun commemoration that was conceived, in 1991, by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in the Philippines. It has a simple premise of focusing more attention on national art and heritage, which has spilled over to the United States, where art enthusiasts have picked up on it.
Of course, the concept of “appreciating art” might seem like a nebulous term. How do we take time to enjoy art? Here are a few suggestions.
Create a new piece of art – Don’t overthink it, either. There are tons of ways to create art, and you don’t have to have Rembrandt-level talent. You can piece together jewelry, sew a quilt, draw a comic strip, or even repaint your shed.
Support one of your artistic friends – This is a great idea since they don’t call them “starving artists” for nothing. Perhaps if you know somebody who creates hand-crafted items, you can support their efforts by buying from them.
Check out an art gallery – It’s a lot of fun to visit an art or history museum to find stuff you’ve never seen anywhere else. Sarasota has plenty of these, too, including the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art or the Sarasota Museum of Art.
Then, if you really want to have a great time and enjoy art . . .
Don’t Forget the Upcoming Gigantic Nautical Flea Market
Join us at the Gigantic Nautical Flea Market, starting February 25th in beautiful Islamorada, FL. It’s an outdoor art exhibit hosted by the local Rotary Club there.
Ask yourself, what could be better than tons of novel artwork on display, with food available, in the balmy Florida Keys? It gets even better because Tube Dude will be there! So, if you haven’t met him in Sarasota, you can finally do so starting at 8 a.m. on the last Saturday of the month.
Meanwhile, we also welcome you to shop with us for all of Tube Dude’s handiwork. The online catalog of tube creations offers many great ways to decorate your landscaping, mailbox, or even make the front of your business look cooler. Contact us anytime to learn more at (941) 735-6009.
